Design and Illustration for Ulysses by James Joyce for the Penguin Press department. The illustration is of O'Connell Street in Dublin from the time when the book was written. The persons picked out in red and blue represent the characters imagined/ encountered by both Bloom and Dedalus. The chaos of the scene aimed to reflect the percieved chaos in the way in which the book was written. The colours were chosen and muted to mimic examples of work from ancient Greece – in reference to the book's links to Homer's epic poem, Odyssey.
